Eight Québec athletes will fly to Republic of Korea for the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games

Eight athletes of Special Olympics Québec will fly on Thursday, January 24, to the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games, which will be held in PyeongChang, Republic of Korea, from January 29 to February 5.

Among of the 141 athletes, coaches and mission staff member of Special Olympics Team Canada 10 Quebeckers of whom 8 athletes and 2 coaches will represent our country at these upcoming Games. The qualification of these athletes was based on their performance at the last Special Olympics Canada National Winter Games held in St.Albert, Alberta, in February 2012.

It is a source of great pride for Special Olympics Québec to have 8 of its athletes participating for the international competition. The selection is proof of their determination, discipline and passion. Support by their coaches, parents and friends, they are a model of perseverance for more than 5,400 athletes in the Québec movement.

During the eight-day sporting event, as many as 3,200 athletes from 120 countries will compete in 7 winter sports. Canadian athletes will compete in in 6 of them: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing and speed skating.
