16 Special Olympics members recognized for their excellence in sports

Montréal, November 28, 2013 – The athletic excellence of the 16 Special Olympics Québec members was recognized this past Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the 13th annual recognition evening presented by the multi-sport federation for people living with intellectual disabilities.

During a gala at the Hotel des Seigneurs at St-Hyacinthe before some 250 volunteers and partners, 16 recognition awards were presented to athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, sports clubs, teams, local committees and partners who had distinguished themselves by their actions during the 2012-2013 sports season.


The following MÉRITAS 2013 award recipients were announced:

Since 1981, Special Olympics Québec (SOQ) has been enriching the lives of people with an

intellectual disability through sport and facilitating their inclusion in society. Nearly 5,550

athletes participate in 17 official sports, in our training and competition programs offered throughout Québec, designed to increase their well-being, self-sufficiency, self-esteem and social integration. Our athletes, through 421 sports club, and our 1,652 volunteers are present in all regions of Québec and they participate annually to 80 competitions and a 4 years cycle of provincial, national and world games.
