LÉVIS TO WELCOME A DELEGATION OF 530 PEOPLE AT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS QUÉBEC PROVINCIAL WINTER GAMES
11 February 2015

Friday March 6 will mark the beginning in the City of Lévis of the 2015 Special Olympics Québec Provincial Winter Games in which 530 people will participate. Over the course of three days, athletes with an intellectual disability from all over the province will compete in one or more of the following 7 sports: curling, floor hockey, figure skating, speed skating, snowshoeing, alpine skiing and cross-country skiing.

Throughout the Games, the mission staff as well as several coaches and volunteers will be on site to supervise the athletes and ensure the smooth running of the event. These Games will also serve to launch the process of selecting the athletes and volunteers for the team which will represent Québec at the 2016 National Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Games will begin on Friday morning while the Opening Ceremony officially launching this event and the traditional Torch Relay will be held on Friday evening at the Lévis arena. The sports competitions will take place in various locations in and around town which will be specially adapted so as to offer our athletes the best possible conditions.

The Games will take place under the honorary chairmanship of Mr. Jacques Tanguay, vice-president and executive director of Ameublements Tanguay, who along with the organizing committee is committed to delivering an unforgettable experience for the athletes. Annie Pelletier, SOQ’s honorary patron for the past 18 years, and Alexandre Bilodeau, double Olympic champion and SOQ’s new ambassador, will be there to cheer on and support the athletes.

Everyone is invited to attend the Opening Ceremony and to come applaud our athletes during the competitions. The full program is available on the official site of the Lévis Provincial Games at www.osqjeuxprovinciaux.com.
