THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS FESTIVAL: $525 543 FOR THE QUÉBEC SPECIAL ATHLETES

The 2015 Special Olympics Festival held last night at the Palais des congrès de Montréal raised the net sum of $525 543 for Special Olympics Québec, an increase of $100 000 from last year edition.

Under the honorary co-presidency of Ms. Caroline Néron, president of Néron inc., and Mr. Réal Bouclin, president of Réseau Sélection, this prestigious event brought together more than 800 guests from Montreal’s business community as well as several sports celebrities including Guy Lafleur, Steve Charbonneau, Kim Lamarre, Yvan Cournoyer, Donny Toia and Nathalie Lambert who was inducted into the Special Olympics Québec Partners’ Hall of Fame in 2015. The athletes’ honorary patron Annie Pelletier and our ambassador Alexandre Bilodeau were also in attendance along with several of our special athletes.

With social inclusion as its main theme, the 2015 Festival owes its success to the valuable support of the business community and of numerous partners as well as to the outstanding work of our Board of Governors and of all our volunteers. The funds raised will enable us to continue to offer our training and competition programs which foster the development, quality of life, inclusion and social participation of children, teenagers and adults with an intellectual disability. And they will also enable the Québec athletes on Team Canada to represent our country at the World Games which will take place in Los Angeles from July 25 to August 2 and to represent our province at the 2016 National Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The success of this year’s Special Olympics Québec Festival was made possible through the generosity of our partners, namely the Club de hockey Canadiens de Montréal, FGL Sports, Hydro-Québec, SAQ, Témoin production, Réseau Sélection, evenko, RDS and Park Avenue Volkswagen.
