A visit from France!

Montreal, 24 mai 2022 – Special Olympics Quebec received a dozen people with intellectual disabilities and a group of parents, professionals and volunteer guides this Monday in Montreal. The Down Up delegation, from Arras in France, is in Quebec as part of a learning trip funded by the Office franco-québécois pour la jeunesse.

Special Olympics Quebec received the delegation for a day of discovery and initiation. It was an opportunity for Francine Gendron, Executive Director of Special Olympics Quebec, to present the organization as well as the three-part service offer: organized sport, health and unified sport. For his part, Mr. Emmanuel Laloux, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Down up, presented the organization and its range of services offered to parents and families of children living with an intellectual disability.

Since the event aimed to bring the Special Olympics experience to life, athletes from all over Quebec offered the group an introduction to boccia and a physical conditioning session. Laughter and fun were on the agenda during this day filled with joy and newly born friendships.

Among the representatives of Down Up, let us highlight the presence of Éléonore Laloux, who has an intellectual disability and who holds the position of Deputy Advisor for Inclusive Transition and Happiness in the Municipality of Arras.

The event took place at the offices of Fraternité des policiers et policières de Montréal.
